Open Air Theatre And Pride And Prejudice

Open Air Theatre And Pride And Prejudice
Published 4th Jul 2006 by Nick Harvey

From the 17th -26th August 2006 the Open Air Theatre And Pride And Prejudice will be showing at Stanmer House, Brighton.

The original and still the best of all romantic comedies is coming to Brighton in a classy star led production to play in the park this summer. This acclaimed production has regularly played to packed houses across the country. Now is your chance to see it in its natural home, the magical heritage setting of Stanmer, rapidly establishing itself as one of the country’s major marriage venues.

“Bright and Sparkling” is Jane Austen’s perfect description of her own perfectly delightful Regency comedy, a triumph of true love allied with deliciously mercenary motives. Her classic story of the romantic merry-go-round is set in the fashionable England of the Napoleonic period where eligible young men are strictly rationed.

Sarah Matravers is Elizabeth Bennet - Her extensive television credits include Footballers' Wives Extra Time Joly Slater (ITV), Spooks (BBC), Murphy's Law (ITV) and Dream Team. Her parallel presenting career includes Big Strong Boys (BBC) and Passport to Passion.

Marc Bannerman is Darcy - Marc's London theatre credits such as The Canterbury Tales and Nosfuratu soon led to major television roles including Footballers' Wives Extra Time (ITV), Coupling, Paul (BBC), Eastenders Gianni Di Marco (BBC). Marc's rave reviews and female fan following have catapulted him to celebrity status.

We can reveal that Marc and Sarah are a real life couple, bringing an extra spice to the sparring of Lizzy and Darcy.

Jennifer Wilson plays Mrs Bennet - Jenny was Jennifer Hammond in the BBC Classic drama series The Brothers, and she has starred with many of the theatre greats including John Neville and Tyrone Guthrie. Recent theatre includes Helen Hanff in 84 Charing Cross Road at Windsor Theatre Royal and Mrs Boyle in The Mousetrap in London's West End.

Bruce Montague is Mr Bennet - starring for many years in BBC's acclaimed Butterflies as Leonard, his TV credits include Sharon and Elisie, LWT's Whoops Apocalypse and BBC's The Secret Army. Bruce began his theatre career with Vivien Leigh at the Old
Vic, and recent stage includes Oliver! at the London Palladium as Mr Brownlow and Phantom of the Opera at the London Palladium.

Carol Cleveland plays Lady Catherine de Bourgh and is best known as the female member of Monty Python. Carol played Anna in the UK wide tour of Five Blue Haired Ladies sitting on a Green Park Bench and repeated her success with the same role in Philadelphia.
