Open Houses

Open Houses
Published 8th Nov 2005 by Brightonlife Culture Dept.

During the first two weekends of December, visitors can enjoy a special festive preview of the May 2006 Brighton festival of Artists? Open Houses as artists from 33 houses across Brighton and Hove deck the halls and open their homes and studios to display and sell the work of over 270 artists and makers.

Artists exhibiting in the Christmas preview include Brian Grimwood and Robert Ryan. Brian Grimwood was credited by Print Magazine as having changed the look of British illustration. He has worked for most of the popular magazines worldwide and has become one of Europe?s most innovative and influential illustrators. In 1983 he founded The Central Illustration Agency and more recently opened a multimedia agency, and now represents some of the world's most prestigious illustrators.

Robert Ryan has designed this year?s Christmas window displays for the Liberty store on Regent Street. Following three very successful shows in London this year, Brighton residents will be able to see the work of the highly acclaimed artist / illustrator right on their doorstep.

As well as offering a taster of the May 2006 Brighton festival of Artists? Open Houses when over 1000 artists will exhibit their work at homes throughout the city, the Christmas Open Houses provide an ideal opportunity to shop for locally produced Christmas gifts that are unique, personal and affordable.

Visitors are welcome to browse, eat mince pies and warm themselves by open fires whilst chatting with the artists.

Christmas Artists? Open Houses brochures are available at most public information centres, plus shops and cafes throughout the city.

Most houses will be open both weekends, Saturday 3rd, Sunday 4th, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of December, between 11am and 5pm.
