Organic And British On The Bbq

Organic And British On The Bbq
By Chrissie 4th Jul 2008

Think of Abel & Cole as your personal food shopper, selecting the best British, organic, ethical foods for your barbecue this summer. Not only does the online organic grocer have a selection of outstanding British meats, reared to the finest standards – from slow-reared pork sausages to spatchcocked free-range chickens, Abel & Cole’s larder is also well-stocked with the best barbecue accompaniments. And, then, there’s Keith Abel’s new book, bursting with scrumptious BBQ recipes. Here’s a little taster:

Old Fashioned Sausages
Abel & Cole makes their own delicious organic sausages using slow-reared pork, beef and lamb from Sydling Brook Farm in Dorset, Laverstoke Park and Box Farm in Hampshire. All the animals have acres of grassy meadows to live in, and all are reared in accordance with the highest levels of animal welfare. Such high standards produce bangers with a real old fashioned flavour.

Spatchcocked organic, free-range chicken
Abel & Cole’s poultry comes from two family-run farms: Common End Farm in Derbyshire and Higher Fingle Farm in Devon. The birds on these farms roam free in grassy pastures and mature for longer - giving tender meat and a wonderful flavour. Abel & Cole’s commitment to animal welfare was recognised in 2007 by the RSPCA when it won the Good Business Award.

Burgers: Chilli Beef, Pork and Apple, Lamb and Mint
Abel & Cole makes their own burgers, using meat from Pip Browning at Manor Farm in Wiltshire, Mark Melly from Box Farm and Laverstoke Park in Hampshire. These burgers come in a fantastic range of flavours, from your traditional all beef burger to beef with a hint of chilli, pork with apple or leek and lamb with mint, as well as a rare breed chicken burger. All satisfyingly meaty and great on the barbecue.

Whole Orkney Salmon
Abel & Cole’s organic salmon hails from Kirkwall in the Orkney Isles, and swims in the fresh, fast-flowing waters where the Atlantic Ocean meets the North Sea. It is naturally lower in fat than conventionally-farmed salmon, and tastes totally magnificent!

Abel & Cole Blinding BBQ Sauce
This smoky barbecue sauce will add a bit of zip and spice to your burgers, sausages and grilled meats.

Brewer’s Beer Selection
If you’re going to select the finest British meats, you need some outstanding beers from our isles to wash it down. Abel & Cole has put together their own special, organic ‘6 pack’ of beers from small breweries across England. In this organic selection, there’s not a chemical insight: Duchy Originals, Fullers Honeydew, Withens IPA, Brakspear, Samuel Smith's Best Ale and Samuel Smith's Lager.

Husk-Wrapped and Roasted Garlic Corn and Abel & Coleslaw
These are just two of the delicious BBQ recipes in the summer chapter of Keith Abel’s new book, Cooking Outside The Box: The Abel & Cole Cookbook (Collins;
£17.99)

Barbeque Box
All the meat in these boxes is from traditional and rare British breeds that are reared to give delicious lean meat. The boxes come in both medium and large sizes and include; burgers, sausages, BBQ glazed ribs and lamb chops/cutlets. It is recommended to order these a week in advance.
