Paper/scissors/glue: An Exhibition Of Paper Collage By Sarah Pain

Paper/scissors/glue: An Exhibition Of Paper Collage By Sarah Pain
By Sarah Pain 15th Sep 2008

At Blanch House, 17 Atlingworth Street, Brighton, East Sussex BN2 1PL from Oct 19th to Nov 16th, midday - late, free entry, private View Oct 19th at 8pm.

Social commentary through cut and stick… Kittens and death; technology and flowers. The juxtaposition within collage reflects the ridiculousness of modern life. Remember - Collage: It's not just for the mentally ill.

All my collages are made the old fashioned way - with books and magazines, scissors and glue - no computers! It's a long creative process - hours spent looking through books for images and carefully cutting them out. The Readers Digest Book of Great Disasters and flower catalogues are a favourite.

I also organise a bi-monthly collage club - an afternoon of cut and stick - trying to get the masses to re-discover collage...saying you don't have to have artist talent to join in... they are lots of fun with prize giving at the end...it's amazing the strange, wonderful and disturbing things people come up with.

Collage Club: an afternoon of cut and stick no artistic talent needed - materials provided - prizes given! @ The Iron Duke, Waterloo Street, Hove, Sun 21st Sep / Sun 2nd Nov, 3-7pm, £1.50 entry towards materials.
