Pelirocco Still Pelirocking And Rolling

Pelirocco Still Pelirocking And Rolling
Published 28th Sep 2005 by Alex Hammond

Picture the scene... you're lead singer in a band labelled 'the next big thing' by the music press. The next leg of your first major tour sees you playing in Brighton. 'Hey you,' you mumble to your tired tour manager, 'where are we staying tonight?'

'Pelirocco, matey' will probably be the response.

Hotel Pelirocco, on Regency Square, is the naughtiest hotel in town and quite unlike any other. Each bedroom has been individually styled by one of an eclectic assortment of designers, ranging from record label Skint to famous agitator and artist Jamie Reid (who famously put a safety pin through the Queen's nose and worked with the Sex Pistols).

The hotel has played host to more famous faces down the years than the Priory, but would certainly never kiss and tell. This attitude makes the Pelirocco a favorite destination for dirty weekends - the Betty Page room (Betty's Boudoir) is certainly naughty, while the eight-person jacuzzi/eight foot circular bed combo (pictured left) in the Bubble Suite offers endless possibilities for the more adventurous... as of January 2006 it will be refurbished and rechristened the Durex Playroom!
The bar is an intimate kind of a place, resplendent with subtle wallpaper, bright pink seating and a variety of cocktails suitable to fuel all kinds of debauchery. Sit back and relax, chew the fat and appreciate the ever-changing pop-art on the walls, while thinking inexplicably of Playstations (they sponsor the bar, putting squares, crosses, circles and triangles around the place and a PS2 in every room).

The Hotel Pelirocco has changed Brighton since opening in 2000 - a few excellent boutique hotels have appeared in its wake, but this place manages to maintain an atmosphere all of its own.

Having broken new ground by releasing a CD in 2003 (including a track from the Scissor Sisters, long before Glastonbury came calling), the hotel is now branching out into clothing. A new line of punk-chic tee-shirts with saucy straplines are available at ?25 a pop exclusively from the hotel. Brightonlife thoroughly recommends checking them out!

Hotel Pelirocco offers Brighton's sauciest stopover - room rates range from ?50 (for a saucy solo stopover, midweek) to ?260 for a weekend night in the Bubble Suite (according to hotel legend, one pop star declared 'this place is too big for one person' and promptly decamped into town, only to return hours later with company!). All prices include VAT and breakfast.

Alongside all the fun stuff, there are also conference facilities for 16 people, with optional extras including bacon butties for delegates. The whole hotel is also bathed in glorious wi-fi. For more details, check out the website www.hotelpelirocco.co.uk, or call 01273 327055.
