Press Release: Have Brits Lost Their Holiday Spontaneity?
Published 4th Aug 2011 by Nick Wheywell

Hi
I wanted to touch base with you regarding a survey my client, The Caravan Club, recently conducted and also their ‘Find the Freedom’ campaign they are currently running (which has a focus on Brighton).

The survey looked at holiday attitudes, revealing that as Brits we may be stuck in a rut as nearly half of us repeatedly take our holiday at the same destination. It closely links in with the Find the Freedom campaign as its very much about promoting the UK and how there is so much to see on our own doorsteps.

I hope this is of interest. If you require any images or any other information please feel free to contact me.

Kind regards,
Nick

For Immediate Release: 4th August 2011

Have Brits lost their holiday spontaneity?

The Caravan Club’s ‘Find the Freedom’ campaign highlights the delights of UK touring as a holiday

According to a recent survey* 46% of UK residents repeatedly take their holiday in the same holiday destination. So with nearly half of all holiday makers returning to previous locations, are we stuck in a holiday rut? What about all the other amazing destinations waiting to be discovered?

The survey, conducted by The Caravan Club, was carried out in the run up to the recently launched ‘Find the Freedom’ competition www.discovertouring.co.uk/freedom, where a brand new Swift Challenger Sport 514 caravan worth £16,000 can be won. The campaign aims to shout about the many fantastic UK destinations right on our doorstep and how easily they can be explored with a caravan. With a caravan or motor home every weekend can be a holiday, you can simply stick a pin in the map and set off on a fun-packed journey, every holiday will be a new experience, behind each bend in the road lies a potential new legend. And with a whopping 61% of those surveyed saying they go back to the same location simply because “they like it”, what better way to discover hundreds of new places that you may like as much, if not more, than caravanning.

The survey also showed that over 50% of UK holidaymakers only feel like they have had a holiday if they’ve been abroad, but in a time when overseas holidays are costing more, a staycation should not be overlooked as a holiday option. Caravanning is affordable yet flexible, you can literally move from beauty spot to beauty spot, waking up with a new view every day. You can visit cultural cities, coastal gems or hidden retreats and best of all, if the sun moves on, so can you!

Lawrence Bate, Director of Marketing for The Caravan Club says, “The Caravan Club are convinced that people are falling back in love with the UK as a holiday destination, with caravanning becoming increasingly more popular. It’s promising to see that nearly 70% of people surveyed said they didn’t need a holiday itinerary in place before heading off on holiday. This is exactly what caravanning is about, jumping in the car and heading off.”

Bate continues, “The Club launched its ‘Find the Freedom’ campaign because it wants people who have never caravanned before to sit up and take notice. It really is a wonderful lifestyle and the best thing…the delights of this country, which are equal to that of Europe and further afield, are literally on your doorstep.”

And it couldn’t be easier, with fun, interactive weekly clues, in the form of inspiring photography, posted on www.discovertouring.co.uk/freedom you simply have to guess where in the UK the outdoor loving family has visited that week. With four different locations you have four chances to win the top prize, a Swift Challenger Sport 514, the perfect van to start your adventure with. There are also a host of other fantastic outdoor prizes up for grabs.
