Quantic Releases 2nd Single From ?An Announcement To Answer'
Published 13th Dec 2006 by Alex Brown
Will Holland – aka Quantic – releases the second single from ‘An Announcement To Answer’, his fourth solo album for Tru Thoughts on Monday 29th January 2007. Hailed across the board as his best and most accomplished to date, the album was a huge success; entering the independent album charts at number 20 and winning both public and critical acclaim. Written and recorded on a laptop during an extended period of international gigging and crate-digging, ‘An Announcement To Answer’ features numerous collaborations with some of the talented artists and musicians that Will met along the way.
The title track of this single 'Sabor' finds Quantic teaming up with Tempo, a Puerto Rican percussionist who has previously worked with Roberto Roena of the legendary Fania All Stars. One of the big club tunes from the LP, this smooth 4/4 Latino cut spices things up by switching to a broken beat mid-way through. ‘Sabor‘ appears here in original and bonus beats form. B Side 'Electric Folklore' is exclusive to this release. This dirty slice of instrumental broken beat was left off the final running order of 'An Announcement To Answer' because Will felt it didn't fit in with the overall sound of the album.
The single also boasts Quantic's own club-friendly remix of 'Politick Society' featuring Noelle Scaggs on vocals. Best known for her work with The Rebirth, Noelle drops her own personal discourse on the state of the world over some flavoursome Latin-American percussion.
Below is some feedback from Announcement To Answer:
“This is such a great record!…it’s the sound of him maturing and bringing his influences together.” DJ Mag
“In some ways Quantic has gone back to his hip hop beat-making roots and in others he continues to push his sound forward to new and unchartered waters. Possibly his finest and most mature album so far.” SNC
“Quantic excels in his structuring, stretching horn stabs and guitar licks over a plethora of tempos and numerous styles of
percussion…as a producer he has become prolific over the last few years.” Muzic-zine
“Another breathtaking, ass-shaking piece of work.” International DJ Mag
“Quantic is a music genius who has created a true world music sound, one that is universal to all…” Clash
