Red Bull Vert Sessions Comes To Brighton
Published 31st Aug 2004 by Sophia

?Boarding?, BMX?ing and break dancing take over Brighton on Sunday 5th September (12-6pm), as the Red Bull Vert Sessions comes to town with the UK?s best skate and BMX talent in the UK ? with some b-boys thrown in for good measure!

Supported by skate and BMX brand Etnies, Red Bull Vert Sessions is a combined series of vert demos and workshops. Taking part will be skateboard heroes Pete King, Dave Allen and Australia?s Renton Millar. The skaters will be joined by BMX legends Jon Taylor and local Hastings rider Bas Keep. Aside from vert action, entertainment will be provided with b-boys break dancing and give-aways to spectators!

The Vert Sessions consists of a two-day tour, starting Saturday 4th September at ?Bay Sixty6? (formerly known as ?Playstation Skatepark?) West London. The pro-riders were on hand to offer local kids a chance to take part and learn everything they need to know about vert riding. Today?s event is held outside the Zap Club on Brighton Beach, as the pro-riders perform tricks and wow the crowds in a ?demo session? on the UK?s largest ramp - the Red Bull 15-metre Vert Ramp.

In recent years vert riding has given way to street notably due to the time, patience and difficulty the discipline requires. However, as part of its continual commitment to the scene, Red Bull is hosting this tour to enable riders to get to grips with the basics, feel confident about their riding and discover just how rewarding vert can be.

Local pro-BMX?er Bas Keep comments: ?The Red Bull Vert Sessions has been really successful so far, creating a real interest in the scene and in many cases, introducing vert riding to the amateurs. I expect this last stop in Brighton will be the perfect end to the tour, especially with such a big BMX and skate community in the area.?

Last year, over a hundred riders between the ages of 8 and 18 took part in the ?sessions?, whilst this year?s interest has doubled with the addition of BMX vert riding. Launched in Bristol in May, many amateur riders who had never even stood at the top of a ramp before, never mind attempt a ?drop in?, were taking their first steps to one day mastering ?Rock Fakie?s and ?Rodeo 540?s?!
