Rhoda Dakar Of The Special Aka & 2-tone Fame Guest Dj @ Da Doo Ron Ron Sat 27 Aug @ Sticky Mike's Frog Bar
Published 2nd Aug 2011 by Chris King
Da Doo Ron Ron are chuffed to bits to welcome the return of a bona fide superstar guest DJ the lovely RHODA DAKAR (Special AKA / 2-Tone / Bodysnatchers) on bank-holiday Saturday 27th August at Sticky Mike's Frog Bar (formerly Jam). Rhoda also famously featured on The Specials tune 'I Can't Stand It', a dazzling duet with Terry Hall and has recently sung live with those nutty boys Madness. In keeping with the Da Doo femme-tastic remit Rhoda will be spinning a special, one-off set of skanking girltastic grooviness embracing Sisterly Soul, Funk & Ska. Rhoda has guested at Da Doo on 3 previous occasions & has "blown the bloody doors off!" each and every time! DO NOT MISS!
Tickets are £5 in advance OR £7 on the door / £5 with a flyer otd
Doors 10pm - 3am
Established way back in October 1998, Da Doo Ron Ron is a fabalicious mix of femme pop, sisterly soul 'n' funk, girlgroup dramarama & chicks with licks; spanning the 50s to mid-70s. Expect 50s diva dolls, Hip shakin' Mamas, Smitten kittens, Jukejoint jezebels, Girls gone rockin', Popcorn popstrels, Motown minxes, Spector's Princesses, Swingin' Mademoiselles, Slick Chicks, Soul sisters, Rave up garage gals & Northern nightingales. It's WILD women & song!
As seen on BBC1 TV & Channel 4 TV, as heard on BBC6 Radio and BBC Radio 4, as featured in the NME, Guardian, Time Out, The Times, The Pittsburgh (USA) City Paper & Grazia.
"At least two thirds of the crowd at DDRR are girls who come to dance, so the atmosphere's always really special!"
