Rob Da Bank Brings Sunday Best To Brighton
Published 13th Apr 2005 by Sam Watts
Saturday 16th April @ The Ocean Rooms 10pm - 3am
A brand new night at the Ocean Rooms resulting from a collaboration of like-minded attitudes. The founders of popular electro-punk-funk night PEROXIDE and the organisers of WHITE FANG (who had acts such as Whitey, Cagedbaby & Radio Slave last year) have joined forces at the revamped Brighton club ? taking advantage of the new live room. The first of these parties sees Radio One presenter, founder of Sunday Best Recordings and now organiser of 3-day music festival: BESTIVAL; ROB DA BANK take centre stage.
Rob has had a rapid rise to fame since Sunday Best Recordings? birth in 1997 unveiling then unknown acts Groove Armada, Bent and Lemon Jelly to the world. By 2002 he had a weekly club in Ibiza, with guests Groove Armada, Goldfrapp and Norman Cook attracting record crowds, Sunday Best went on the road in the UK too, taking in Glastonbury, Creamfields and the Essential Festival before kick-starting a new monthly residency at the Lock Tavern in Camden.
In April 2002, Rob was asked to do a pilot for Radio One and along with Chris Coco became Radio One?s newest DJ presenting The Blue Room.
2004 was the year that Sunday Best Recordings kicked into gear as a force to be reckoned with! Most notably it saw the release of Grand National?s stunning critically acclaimed ?Kicking The National Habit? debut album, Max Sedgley?s killer underground anthem ?Happy? and Rob da Bank?s debut artist album, alongside Dan Carey, as Lazyboy.
And then came Bestival! Rob?s very own 3-day Festival in the picturesque surroundings of the Isle Of Wight. The event, hosted by The Cuban Brothers and headlined by Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, The Bees, Zero 7, Lee ?Scratch? Perry and Mylo, was a huge success that saw it nominated as the Best New Festival and Best Small Festival in the UK Festival Awards and as Best Event in the Mixmag Dance Music Awards.
2004 was then topped off with Rob filling in for the sadly departed John Peel, 3 nights a week on Radio 1.
Rob will be joined by Georgio Moroder inspired Live act ?The Situationists? in the middle floor. And DJ support in the form of TightFitt (White Fang), The Jilted Johns (Peroxide), and Iced Ink.
