Rosie Wilby: The Science Of Sex
Published 19th Apr 2010 by Matt Costello
Fringe Report Award winner 2010 Rosie Wilby investigates the science of attraction, sexual chemistry and sexual identity. What makes us gay or straight? What turns us on? What are pheromones? Why are we attracted to one person and not another? What happens chemically in the brain when we fall in love? What is the scientific origin of kissing? Do aphrodisiacs work?
In July 2000, Rosie released a critically acclaimed self-financed album of her own music ‘Precious Hours’. Then in 2002, she founded Girls Cross Country – an Arts Council funded initiative to encourage like-minded independent female songwriters. Highlights of her musical career included playing Glastonbury Festival and supporting Bob Geldof on tour.
Rosie’s turn to stand up comedy resulted in immediate success in the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny competition, as well as the appearances in the finals of Funny Women 2006, Funny Bones 2006 and Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2007 that followed. Her first solo show ‘Olympic Swingball Champion 2012’ enjoyed successful runs at Edinburgh Fringe 2006 and Brighton Fringe 2007.
Rosie has recently been a guest on Jenny Éclair’s LBC radio show, and on Radio Merseyside (Billy Butler) and Radio Cambridge (Sue Marchant). She has also been a roving gig reporter for BBC London Live and a reporter for Radio 5 Live.
Described as ‘Consistently entertaining' (Three Weeks) and ‘Hilarious from start to finish’ (insidecomedy.co.uk), Rosie is one of the fastest rising stars of the comedy circuit.
Rosie Wilby: The Science of Sex visits Komedia Brighton on Thursday 22 April at 20.00. Tickets are £5 / £6 available on-line at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton or from the Box Office on 0845 293 8480.
