See The Brighton Documentary Film Festival Returns
Published 21st Jan 2009 by Rebecca Coleman
Documentary fever will once again be hitting the streets of Brighton and Hove on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of February with the return of SEE The Brighton Documentary Film Festival. SEE Festival is dedicated to everything documentary, and celebrates both existing and emerging talent within the industry.
SEE was founded by David Notman-Watt, award winning Brighton based filmmaker and director of Back2back productions Ltd in 2005, and is the only festival in Sussex dedicated to factual filmmaking and television.
David says,
“SEE aspires to create a relaxed, informal space where filmmakers, producers, commissioners, writers, directors and film aficionados can watch films together, discuss their work, network and listen to talks celebrating the art of documentary filmmaking.”
This year SEE will be showcasing the work of some of the UK’s most well respected documentary filmmakers with a weekend packed full of screenings, seminars and special events with the leading lights in the industry, including Marc Isaacs, Kat Mansoor, Jerry Rothwell, Toby Amies, Elizabeth Stopford, Henry Singer, Daisy Asquith, Mark Reynolds, Neil Cairns along with Ditchling based Patron Luke Holland.
We also have an array of the best student films from the region and lots of exciting panel sessions from Funding and Distribution to ‘How to make a Documentary’ and ‘Behind the Green Screen.’
Organisations such as BBC Storyville, BRITDOC, Al Jazeera, One World Broadcasting Trust, Green TV, Shooting People, Channel 4’s First Cut, and Current TV are also involved.
SEE Festival will be marking its 2009 Launch with a special event in association with BAFTA in the Regions and Screen South. On Friday 20th February Three Miles North of Molkom will be screened at the Odeon Cinema in Brighton followed by a Q&A with co-directors Robert Cannan and Corinna Villari-McFarlane.
SEE aspires to provide an unprecedented opportunity for knowledge-transfer between industry experts and up and coming filmmakers
SEE has already established a name as an informal, friendly, non-competitive and lively festival that promotes the art of film-making. This year the festival will continue to inspire and support a new generation of filmmakers.
SEE Festival Venue: Umi Hotel, 64 Kings Road, Brighton, BN1 1NA
