Shoreham Port Open Day
Published 21st Jun 2010 by Chris Jones

This year Shoreham Port is celebrating its 250th anniversary and is holding an “Open Day”. Entry is free, with any proceeds or donations going to local charities.

This promises to be a family fun day out with many visiting vessels and a variety of attractions. Some of the vessels will include a Royal Navy Minesweeper; SS Shieldhall; an RNLI lifeboat; Coastguard Vessel “Hunter”; Fishery Protection Vessel “Watchful”; the tug “Challenge” from the Dunkirk Little Ships; a cutter form HMS Victory – manned by a crew in period uniform and many other interesting small craft. There are dive teams and demonstrations by three diving teams, including a specialist one from the police.
Visitors will be able to take boat trips round the harbour and visit the local Farmers’ Market as well as lots of other static exhibitions.
There are children’s rides, Samba band, other bands, and a male voice choir. Heart FM will be there and some visitors may even want to join in the line dancing!
It promises to have something for everybody – so come along to Shoreham Harbour (if coming by car, via Basin Road South, accessed near Hove Lagoon) for a real fun day out.
