Spend Easter In Italy, Without Leaving Brighton

Spend Easter In Italy, Without Leaving Brighton
Published 24th Feb 2011 by Jo Aspin

Buona Pasqua from Carluccio’s in Brighton! Easter is one of the most important festivals in the Italian calendar, second only to Christmas and associated with a host of traditional celebrations.

Whether you’re looking for an Easter biscuit-decorating workshop for creative kids, artisanal Easter gifts sourced from Italy, or somewhere truly Italian to take the whole family for an Easter feast, pop in to Carluccio’s caffè.

EASTER EGGS, GIFTS AND GOODIES

No Easter would be complete without chocolate eggs and Carluccio’s offers a fabulous selection of beautifully packaged varieties including the ultimate in indulgence – the Uovo Grandissimo. Weighing in at a whopping 5kg, made from dark chocolate and hand-decorated with the classic Italian Easter greeting, this £145 confection is a chocoholic’s dream. If your tastes are molto piccolo, choose from the smaller Uovo Grande (£17.95 for 400g) and Uovo Decorato (£6.95 for 150g), both available in a choice of dark, milk and white chocolate.

For something quirky, Carluccio’s crème egg-esque Uovo alla coque – look like soft-boiled eggs – but taste much better. They’re made from dark chocolate and hazelnut paste and topped with white chocolate, and cost just £2.95 each.

Italians might not count the Easter Bunny as a traditional symbol of the season, but Carluccio’s does offer a wise-looking hare, the Lepre di Cioccolato, available in milk, dark and white chocolate at £6.95 for £120g. Following on with the animal theme, Carluccio’s chocolate fish in eye-catching vivid hues come in two sizes, priced at £2.50 and £5.95.

Easter’s not all about chocolate though. For an authentic Italian Easter cake, the Colomba Tradizionale is named after and shaped like a dove, the symbol of peace. This soft cake, with plenty of butter, sultana and candied peel is available in two sizes: £13.95 for 750g and individual versions of 100g for £3.95.

Children’s Easter Biscuit Decorating Mornings

Keep the kids entertained this Easter by heading to Carluccio’s for their biscuit decorating class. Taking place on Thursday 14th April, from 10am-11am, the little ones can get their hands messy, while mums and dads can relax with their choice of breakfast with unlimited tea, coffee or orange juice. Classes are £15 per adult and child, and £7.50 for each additional child. Plus, budding Picassos can enter Carluccio’s colouring competition to win a delicious 5kg giant chocolate egg. Each caffè has one to give away for the most beautiful colouring-in.

DINE WITH CARLUCCIO’S THIS EASTER

Carluccio’s doors are open for all-day dining throughout the Easter season. Visit with all the family and enjoy Spring specials such as torta pasqualina (savoury tart filled with spinach, eggs and artichokes), branzino in cartoccio (whole baked seabass with herbs) or stinco d’agnello (braised lamb shank with celeriac and carrot puree) which sit alongside Carluccio’s authentic Italian antipasti, pastas, risottos, main dishes and indulgent desserts. A three-course meal with a glass of wine will set you back as little as £15 and children get their own nutritious £6.25 menu, which includes a soft drink, grissini, a choice of main courses and a tub of Italian ice cream, along with an activity pack to keep them amused.
