Steph O'brien From The Puppini Sisters Performs Live @ The Hope Sat 1st May
Published 15th Apr 2010 by Chris King
DA DOO RON RON, Brighton’s long-running - 12 years young this October! - femme pop 'n' soul club night is now hosting a 'live' monthly happening at the Hope.
Chanteuse STEPHANIE O'BRIEN's day job is with super-successful vocal trio (the gals are stratospherically popular Stateside!) THE PUPPINI SISTERS. The PUPPINI SISTERS embrace diverse influences from Marlene Dietrich to Kate Bush to Tom Waits to the neo-Burlesque movement and purvey a modern up-date of 1940s/50s-style close harmony singing dubbed 'swing-punk, though the gals themselves prefer 'Vintage Swing Pop'. As well as singing, Steph also plays violin, The P Sisters MySpace describing her as "the pouty redhead with the camptastic moves".
STEPHANIE O'BRIEN and uber-cool garage combo The McDEATH TRIO perform reverb drenched David Lynch-like lounge-core covers (Nick Cave, Screamin' Jay Hawkins et al) with a sleazy-listening Tarantino Twin Peaks twang.
Check Stephanie O'Brien (of The PUPPINI SISTERS) & The McDeath Trio radical revamp of Nick Cave's 'Red Right Hand':-

RAMONA - support band

"Blondie vs The Strokes in a punk rock party of epic proportions!" XYZ Mag
RAMONA are a fantastic new Brighton-based new-wave pop-punk combo influenced by Transformer by Lou Reed, Ballad of Halo Jones by Alan Moore and Ian Gibson, Different Class by Pulp, The Scream by Siouxie and the Banshee's and Music For Chameleons by Truman Capote. Both tracks on Ramona's MySpace are instant killer diller classics & lead singer Karen Anne is the most charismatically stylish front woman to break out of Brighton since ... well, ANYONE! Here's a chance to check 'em out in an intimate venue before they go stratospherically stellar!
