The 2-4-1 Summertime Food Offer At Momma Cherri's
Published 4th Jul 2007 by Ruth Price
Enjoy some munch over the Summer! With the kind investment of time from Academy Internet, Momma Cherri’s is running a 2 for 1 offer in the restaurant. Please download and print the attached voucher to claim your space at Momma Cherri this Summer.
Momma Cherri’s offers a fun place to enjoy an excellent healthy and diverse menu in a homely and sociable environment. It is a non-smoking, child friendly and family orientated restaurant. The kitchen boasts a large repertoire of ethnic ingredients and recipes and has become one of the leading places to dine out in the city. The restaurant offers good value for money and combines good food, great music (both recorded and live), visual & creative arts, a hub for black historical facts, in-house merchandising (t-shirts, aprons, pens), cookery courses (kids and adults), private function rooms, an outside catering facility and finally, a work
placement, youth training programme.
Momma Cherri’s has become a huge attraction both locally and further a field. People travel to Brighton just to eat there from Europe and beyond. Brighton Tourist Information Office states that Momma Cherri’s is the third largest tourist attraction after the pier and The Royal Pavillion!
The restaurant has gone from strength to strength and continues to increase in popularity since Charita Jones (‘Momma Cherri’) featured on ‘Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares’ in 2005 and ‘Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares Returns’ in 2006. After the show aired it went on to win a ‘Grierson’ award, an international ‘Emmy’ and was nominated for a ‘BAFTA’ with Gordon Ramsey stating “Momma’s soul is most definitely back in the bowl!”
To make your booking and to benefit from your 10% off, please call 01273 325305 now or email bookings@mommacherri.co.uk.
What’s Charita up to at the moment:
Charita is on a UK wide tour promoting her new soul food cookery book called ‘Momma Cherri’s Soul in a Bowl’ which is available in all good bookshops.
Charita has just produced a new DVD which will be available in the shops later in the year. It can be purchased from the restaurant directly at present or by logging on to www.soulinabowl.com where you can email a request over to buy it. It's a recipe DVD showing 7 dishes, prepared and cooked in under an hour, real time. It's a bit of fun with a special feature appearing on the end.
As part of the DVD production, Charita and her good friend Andrea, recorded a single 'Soul in a Bowl' which again should be available to buy later on in the year but you can hear it on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxHlT9TkAdI if you want to, along with a snippet of the DVD footage.
Charita has recently set up 'Soul in a Bowl' Ltd - her new merchandising arm of the Momma Cherri empire! You can currently buy Momma's special mix of spices at the restaurant along with a key ingredient in her famous jambalaya; gumbo file. This is a tricky thing to find over here and is important from the U.S. Again, log on to www.soulinabowl.com and email your order over. There are many plans afoot for this part of the business so watch this space!
Later in 2007, Charita will be gracing our screens again with an appearance on a new C4 series called Market Kitchen. Produced by Optomen Television (the same guys who did Kitchen Nightmares), you will see Momma Cherri alongside Tana Ramsey (Gordon’s good lady) talking about food and cookin’ up some soul!
Depsite this flurry of activity, Charita’s heart is at home here in Brighton. She’s passionate about the community, young people, music performing arts and healthy eating so she’s working on several local projects supporting these causes. And, let’s not forget, her main focus, as ever, is to keep the restaurant full of happy diners and ensure that every customer goes away with a full belly, smiling! As her motto says “you may come in skinny but you sure ain’t leavin’ that way!”
