The Black Hole Of Mayfair At The Komedia

The Black Hole Of Mayfair At The Komedia
Published 3rd Jan 2007 by Chris Challis

Be transported to the roaring 1920's for a decadent evening of late night swinging as The Black Hole of Mayfair arrives at Komedia for one night only, featuring live jazz from Tula and the Bakelites, gypsy fortune telling from the Famous Gemini Twins, tap dancing and dancing flappers, late night DJing, absinthe faeries, magic, music and mayhem.

Tula Bamforth and the Bakelite Five recreate the sound, the feel, the razamataz and the style of the Roaring Twenties in all its decadent glory. Visually stunning, the Bakelite Five are full of pranks and frolics - all the better to wind up their vampish front-woman Tula Bamforth, who happily licks them and the audience into shape with her verbal volleys of New Yoik Brooklynese.

Combining wit, vaudeville, great music and a repertoire that can’t fail to send an audience into a frenzy of flapping beads, stomping feet and more feathers than you can shake a stick at - Tula Bamforth and the Bakelite Five are a band who will bring any party to its knees and leave you begging for more. With costume changes abound and such foot-stompers as The Charleston, Somebody Stole My Gal, Jeepers Creepers, Ain’t She Sweet, Don’t Bring Lulu and Baby Face guaranteed, it promises to be a heady night of style, sass and sparkle.

THE BLACK HOLE OF MAYFAIR visits Komedia on Friday 19 January at 9pm. Tickets are £10/£8 conc. available on-line or from the Box Office on 01273 647100 (booking fees apply).
