The Greys Score With The Penalty King

The Greys Score With The Penalty King
Published 7th Jul 2004 by Chris BeaumontAdmin

Football fever continues on Southover Street.

The Greys pub on Southover St in Brighton, a haunt of many luminaries from the world of theatre, film and music, has scored a major triumph by being chosen to be the ?featured? pub location in a new film starring ?Gregory?s Girl? actress, Clare Grogan.

?The Penalty King?, starring Clare Grogan, Samantha Beckinsale (London?s Burning), Nick Bartlett (Gangs of New York) and Jane Peachy (Dream Team), focusses on the world of a footballer who loses his sight but with the help of an imaginative work colleague and inspired by memories of his favourite football team he starts to play again.

Film director, Chris Cook, himself a resident in the Hanover area, knew exactly which pub he wanted to be the backdrop to the core element of his film ? The Greys ? and having approached landlord Chris Beaumont, himself an actor, all the interior and exterior pub shots were filmed during two ?overnight? sessions last week.

Twin Track Films who are producing the film are also supporters of the charity
City Synergy who provide sports for visually impaired children and adults and a charity premiere of ?The Penalty King? is planned with a possible screening at The Greys.

Chris Beaumont said, ?I was delighted to be able to get involved with the project particularly as the fictional pub football team?s strip ended up with The Greys name all over it. We are planning to auction one of the shirts for the City Synergy charity.?
