The Hat Final Fanfare!
Published 4th Aug 2009 by Press
After almost six years together, local legends The Hat are calling it a day. To mark this momentous parting of one of Brighton’s most-loved bands, the group will play two very special, back-to-back shows as they say “thank-you and goodbye!” They will be picking their way through their back catalogue and having a jolly big party, plus every ticket purchase includes a copy of their debut album. Don’t miss it!
Comprising of a vocal-scratching singing drummer, a trombone wielding double bassist, a maverick storytelling guitarist and a multi instrumentalist with a world of children's toys, The Hat mix pop hooks, gospel style harmonies and cinematic live music.
"A rich mixture of complex musical arrangements and fairy-tale lyrics: haunting, clever and funny."
- The Guardian
Specialising in modern day fables, myths and tales, The Hat approach their music from an interesting and innovative angle, scoring intricate soundtracks to each of their twisted tales, taking the listener on journeys through worlds where animals are in charge, plants scream when cut and new loves are found at the drop of a beat.
“Quite literally the best all round band I have see in ages”
– Rob Da Bank, Radio 1
Their exciting and innovative live show has been seen at a multitude of festivals including Glastonbury and a main stage slot at BESTIVAL, as well support slots for the likes of The Mystery Jets, The Bees and Michelle Shocked.
The Hat have many hats, as it were; from composing a soundtrack alongside innovative physical theatre company FZ Productions to working with the London Swingfonia orchestra on an orchestrated story (debuted at Glastonbury Festival 2005) to being awarded one of the demo’s of the year by prestigious French magazine CQFD to being included on DJ Rob Da Bank’s Folk Off compilation – The Hat have done it all!
THE HAT’S FINAL FANFARE visit Komedia Brighton on Friday 14 – Saturday 15 August at 9pm (doors 8pm). Tickets are £22 (meal deal) / £12 / £10 available on-line at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton or from the Box Office on 0845 293 8480.
