The Level Skate Jam
Published 12th Sep 2007 by Jack Forester
The long awaited Level Skate Jam will be hitting Brighton on Saturday 29th September, at the newly resurfaced Level Skate Park.
The event will feature a handful of the best skateboarders in the UK, including local professionals Amir Williams and Stevie Thompson, Pete King, Chris Oliver and sponsored teams from all over the UK. Alongside the skateboarding there will be a great line-up of DJs such as newly crowned UK DMC Champion, JFB, also from Brighton.
Skateboarders will compete for a share of £300 prize money, as well as a variety of prizes donated by the event’s sponsors, which include Nike 6.0 and Dickies. Competition categories include sponsored, unsponsored and ‘best trick’. To enter the competition costs £2 and all money raised from entry fees will go to St. John Ambulance.
There will be a Nike 6.0 ‘Killing It’ competition,
which has a cash prize of £100. This will go to the skater who pulls off the biggest and most impressive tricks throughout the day. All this alongside BMX demonstrations, courtesy of the Evans Cycles team, DJ showcases provided by GCI Technologies and retailers selling well-known brands for next to nothing, makes the event one not to be missed!
The event is run by Ground Zero, the same Brighton-based company that runs the ‘Extreme Dirty Weekend’ event on the Seafront, which has been shortlisted for ‘Cultural Event of the Year’ at this year’s Brighton & Hove Business Awards.
Event Organiser, Jack Forester said “There hasn’t been a skateboard competition at the Level since 2003, so we thought it’d be a good idea to get kids back out of their houses and down to the skate park for a bit of a get-together. We are hoping to help push forward the plans for a new concrete skate park at The Level, which will be a huge improvement on the existing facilities”.
