The Night Of The Green Hairy Dogs At Komedia
Published 20th Dec 2006 by Chris Challis
Three of Brighton's most unique and exciting live bands come together for this special one off evening of all things green, hirsute and canine. Featuring dirty grooving rock’n’roll from Turning Green, filthy folk punk masterpieces from The Drookit Dogs and some perfect pervy pop tales of debauchery from The Big Hairy Band.
Turning Green can only assume that they’ve been put on this green earth to make and break groovy music. It's four of them and one of you, every time. Making music, working hard, having fun, drinking expresso in the back of a van that runs on wheat sugar and the green, green grass of home... knowing the impossible very well… feeling the freedom to say hi to everyone and everything… making friends and making music... all the time… it’s what they’re all about.
The drookit dogs are an exciting blend of post-punk and nu-folk; a latter-day Clash with a clear and defined statement on the current state of apathy that we, in Britain, have succumbed to. With nihilistic songs about sex, religion and the frustrating meaninglessness that surrounds us, the drookit dogs perform their jagged style of English sounding post-punk with a ferocity and intensity that is never overstated, yet always on the verge of explosion.
The Big Hairy Band play songs mostly about the things that happen sometimes whilst you’re looking out the window having a good scratch and thinking about what might happen... it usually isn't the things you might choose, but they sometimes can be quite important. Perhaps you're somewhere else and then it hits you abruptly about the face, changing everything without asking you... I dunno... best come see them and make your own mind up.
THE NIGHT OF THE GREEN HAIRY DOGS takes place at Komedia on Friday 12 January at 9pm. Tickets are £6/£4 conc. and are available without a booking fee on-line or from the Box Office on 01273 647100.
