The Penalty King's Coming Home At The Brighton Odeon

The Penalty King's Coming Home At The Brighton Odeon
Published 26th Jan 2007 by Twin Track Films

We’re now seven years in the making! But at long last, writer-director Chris Cook’s feature film The Penalty King is coming home – to Brighton. The Penalty King tells the story of a blind football fan and his demented work colleagues who scam a local pub football team into signing him up for a damn good kickabout.

What follows is “rude, crude and hilarious,” (The Leeds International Film Festival) and “destined to become a cult classic,” (The Times). It’s not for the faint-hearted but as the tagline says ‘Life’s a bitch and then it goes to penalties’

So now it’s time for Brighton to finally get an eyeful (no pun intended) and see what all the fuss is about. What better place for the Brighton Premiere than our very own seafront cinema The Brighton Odeon. Chris Cook says, “It’s been a long labour of love. We must have blagged over twenty locations around Sussex that all feature in the movie – from the streets of Brighton to the playing fields of Stanmer Park. Even a disused factory in Portslade and the old cement works near Shoreham are in there. Local business got on board too and allowed us to film on their premises, from barber shops to The Greys Pub, which is now the spiritual home of pub football in Brighton. In my opinion, anyway.

“There have been a few highs and lows along the way, but that’s what you expect as an independent movie maker. But we’ve done Brighton proud. We’ve shown we can do it. We can make a movie for about 1% of today’s standard budget. Don’t let that put you off! We didn’t have much, but we made it go a long way with a great cast, a great crew, great music and a fine product that I hope my home town of Brighton can be proud of as well.”

So, the good people of Brighton & Hove and Sussex can make up their own minds. Does The Penalty King have balls? Join cast and crew – including lead actor Nick Bartlett (Gangs of New York), Jane Peachey (Casanova’s Women) and rising star David Earl (Ricky Gervais’ Extras) – at the The Brighton Odeon, Friday 9th March 2007 - 10.30pm.

Tickets for this unique event are now on sale through www.penaltyking.com at £5 each.
