The Sussex Symphony Orchestra Christmas Spectacular

The Sussex Symphony Orchestra Christmas Spectacular
Published 7th Nov 2002 by Jonathan Chappell

Seasonal favourites will be combined with orchestral masterpieces when the Sussex Symphony Orchestra stages its annual Christmas Spectacular at St Peter?s Church, Brighton at 7.30 pm on Sunday (December 8).

?We have chosen a programme that is guaranteed to lift the spirits of all those who love Christmas music and classical music,? says conductor Mark Andrew James.

The mood will be set by an orchestral fanfare and the entry of St Peter?s choristers in a candlelit procession.

Music by Tchaikowsky, Mendelssohn and Puccini will include excepts from the Nutcracker Suite and A Midsummer Night?s Dream, soprano Helen Hardwick will sing the famous aria Visi d?arte from Tosca and Caccini?s Ave Maria, and St Peter?s Church Choir will perform Gabriel?s Message, The Rocking Carol and William Mathias? St Christemas. Interspersed with these will be seasonal readings and carols for audience, choir and orchestra.

The concert will end with the resounding finale from Tchaikovsky?s fourth symphony. Tickets cost ?8 from the Dome Box Office (01273 709709).
