Top Beach Volleyball Event Comes To Brighton
Published 5th Aug 2009 by Katie Mintram
A major national beach volleyball event is coming to Brighton over the weekend of Saturday August 15th and Sunday 16th August. Over 60 teams from across the country have entered the event to be held at Nivea Sun Yellowave beach volleyball centre on Madeira Drive.
“The Nivea Sun Brighton Beach Fest is a prestigious event and is part of Volleyball England’s summer series of beach volleyball tournaments”, said Katie Mintram, Yellowave director. “What is good about the event is that it gives our top local players a chance to match themselves against some of the country’s best players. There are ten Brighton based pairs taking part”.
“Since we opened Yellowave in 2007 there has been an explosion of interest in beach volleyball. Now we have several Brighton teams that will be able to compete at the top level,” explained Katie.
The Beach Fest event consists of men’s and women’s doubles events on the Saturday. Then on Sunday there is a mixed 4’s event. The finals on both days will take place at about 4pm.
Beach volleyball is an Olympic sport. NIVEA SUN Yellowave is Brighton’s only official pre Olympic sports training venue. The Beach Fest event is free to spectators and starts at 10.30am each day.
