Ungagged Cd Launch
Published 7th Jul 2006 by Chris Challis
Richard Durrant?s guitar trio, UNGAGGED, celebrates the release of their debut album Where the River Meets the Sea this summer at Komedia on Friday 21 July. Soaring harmonies and aching melodies, UNGAGGED are all about the big stuff in life ? inspired as much by Johnny Cash and Alison Krauss as by John Barry and Jimmy Webb. Bringing together the considerable talents of three friends who share a love of music: Mark Allen, Tom Arnold and Richard Durrant, their brand new CD - 'Where the River Meets the Sea' is released on LongMan Records, the label behind the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain.
?Musically brilliant, lyrically captivating.? Kevin Spector - Splash FM
Starting out as just three mates getting together for some fun, word got out that this was a band with something special. Intense reaction to their live shows spurred Brighton guitarist Mark to build up a set of original songs, backed by renowned concert guitarist Richard?s ever-changing carousel of acoustic, classical and electric guitars, mandolin, banjo and cello. Stomp musician Tom adds percussion, Hammond organ and importantly a third voice. The three vocals blend like Crosby, Stills and Nash, and the end result is real music for real music fans. Country rock songs with chiming guitars sit alongside lavish arrangements and stripped-down ballads of church-like stillness. Stamped across the entire album is the personality of a band with heart and soul.
UNGAGGED is no boy band. Make no mistake, this is songwriting for grown-ups, taking its cue from real life. This is a band that swims in the sea before recording sessions even in November. They are fathers, friends and grafters ? a mid-life Travis, singing tracks about love, betrayal, revenge, lust, loss and fear, written by men who aren?t just thinking about it ? they are living it.
Tickets are ?8/?6 conc. and are available without a booking fee on-line at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton or from the Box Office on 01273 647100.
