Voodoo Vaudeville’s 10th Birthday Party
Published 24th Nov 2009 by Komedia
Voodoo Vaudeville, Brighton’s very own purveyor of surreal and anarchic cabaret theatre, celebrates a decade of decadence on Friday 4 December with an evening of the very best, riotous and deviant cabaret acts to tread Komedia Brighton’s stage.
“Cleverly crafted …exotic, erotic, comical and spiritual” - The Argus
The tenth anniversary show sees the return of many of the original major players that have made Voodoo Vaudeville such a success over the years – Fake Bush, Dolly Rocket, Frank Sinazi and more! – with set pieces choreographed by Lucia Cordani. A wild ride full of glamour, filth and art, the whole evening will be overseen by the master of ceremonies, Chris Cresswell.
“Voodoo Vaudeville is weird, wonderful and wacky.” - BBC Sussex
In the last ten years, the Voodoo crew has become a legendary and renowned internationally touring company, performing shows around the world (including sell-out out shows at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Brighton) with themes taken from everything from Berlin Cabaret and Mardis Gras to Tintin and Bettie Page! Brighton’s original cabaret night, Voodoo Vaudeville is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of contemporary cabaret performance, blazing a trail where few have dared to tread, blurring cutting-edge contemporary dance with defiant performance, deviant theatricality, and cruel yet tender comedy.
“It has to be said - others play at vaudeville, but Voodoo Vaudeville play harder. This is the genuine article” - Total Theatre
Voodoo Vaudeville has existed as a company since 1999, created by the cabaret artist Chris Cresswell. Chris’ work has included five years touring with comedy circus Ra Ra Zoo playing to international audiences as well as teaching at Circus Space in London, Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts and Die Etage Theatre School Berlin. He has appeared on numerous television commercials around the world, as well as appearing on Blue Peter, The Generation Game, and most recently appeared as Prodnose in Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The first Voodoo Vaudeville show was at Komedia in December 1999 - an anarchic mix of bravado, brouhaha and art comedy, it went on to create a cult following with its kooky compères Lennie and Morris and their mixture of improvised comedy, puppets, dances and audience participation.
VOODOO VAUDEVILLE visits Komedia Brighton on Friday 4 December at 9pm. Tickets are £22 (meal deal) / £10 available on-line at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton or from the Box Office on 0845 293 8480.
