World Sand Sculpture Festival - On Brighton Beach!

World Sand Sculpture Festival - On Brighton Beach!
Published 11th Jul 2005 by Admin

One event you wouldn't expect to find on the Brighton social calendar is the World Sand Sculpture Festival!

That, however, is exactly what you're going to get when ten thousand tons of special sand are shipped from the Netherlands and deposited in Brighton Marina so that 60 artists from all over the world can recreate the wonders of Ancient Egypt.

Organisers say that the sculptures, made entirely from sand and water, will remain intact whichever way the wind blows ? up to force 7.

The highlight of the festival, which runs from July 14 to September 11, will be a 50ft-high pyramid. Sphinxes, mummies, temples, Rameses II and Tutankhamun himself will all be sculpted, in what promises to be an amazing exhibition of craft and skill.

The World Sand Sculpture Festival is at Black Rock, Madeira Drive. Open daily 11am-8pm. Adult - ?6, Child up to 4 years - free, Child 4 - 14 years - ?4 and a family ticket of 2 adults and 3 children of ?20
