Worldwide Fun Run

Fancy spending an autumn day by Hove Seafront to save lives in childbirth? Bring your family and friends to walk, pram-push or run your way along the front in support of a local charity that is improving maternal health in Africa.

Maternity Worldwide is looking for participants for its 6km Fun Run along Hove Seafront on Sunday, 10th September 2006. The event will start at 11am at the Meeting Place Caf?, Hove Lawns, Kingsway continue to Hove Lagoon and return along the same course.

This is the second annual Fun Run that the Brighton-based charity is holding in order to raise funds to reduce maternal mortality in developing countries. The suggested donation entrance fee is ?5 and participants are encouraged to gain sponsorship for the event.

2005 winner of the Fun Run, Royal Sussex County Hospital midwife, Annie Powis says: ?Maternity Worldwide and the local midwives put together a great opportunity for community members to be outdoors and active while supporting a local charity. Many individuals don?t realise how the poor state of maternal healthcare in developing countries. We are quite privileged here in the U.K.?

?The funds raised at the Fun Run will make a big difference to the lives of many women in Ethiopia, where the risk of dying in pregnancy or childbirth can be as high as 1 in 7,? says Maternity Worldwide?s Chairman Adrian Brown.
