Yellowave Summer 2009 Programme
Published 23rd Feb 2009 by Katie Mintram
Yellowave, the popular beach sports venue in Madeira Drive, Brighton has announced its summer 2009 programme.
The venue - the first of its kind in the UK - will be hosting the Barefoot Open ? UK Footvolley Championships on July 4th plus various local and regional participation beach volleyball events from March through to September.
The new season?s beach volleyball leagues, that have continued throughout the winter, begin on March 5th and a new beach soccer league kicks off on March 30th. April sees a new series of courses for beach volleyball beginners and improvers commence. Coaching for adult absolute beginners is at 7pm every Friday; with coached sessions on Saturday mornings for beginners to advanced players.
Bookings for beach sports courses for children aged 6 years to 15yrs will also restart in March.
?The explosion in interest in playing beach volleyball has astounded us?, said Spencer Mintram, Venue Manager. ?This summer we have to increase the availability of courts to cope with demand. People love the informality and friendliness of the sport. And at this time of economic difficulties it is such a low cost way of getting fit and having fun ? no gym fees or expensive kit, you just take your shoes off and start playing?
The NIVEA SUN Yellowave venue opened in March 2007 and was hit by an arson attack 8 months later. It reopened last March and is now in its 3rd year. It is Brighton and Hove?s only designated pre ? Olympic training venue. In addition to the 100?s of regular players it attracts many language school students, children?s parties and corporate events.
?Over the winter we have improved the BBQ facilities which proved so popular last summer. All we need now is some sun?, said Sue Smith, Manager of the Barefoot Bar.
