You Cannot Buy My Forgiveness With Cheesecake!
Published 26th Sep 2007 by Kate Naylor
Brighton & Hove resident Kate Naylor has published a collection of conversations overheard in the city’s streets, pubs, clubs and cafes over the past twenty five years. Kate has lived in Brighton for a quarter of a century in October this year. So she decided to mark the occasion by turning her collection, which until then she had just filed in her memory, into a book.
“I have a passion for words and wordplay and I habitually keep my ears open” explained Kate. “Our city’s always been a hotbed of creativity as well as a great source of quality verbage and I’ve been reduced to tears of laughter many, many times over the years!”
Kate sidestepped traditional publishers by first creating an e-book, which she used to test demand.
“I was delighted to get a flurry of emails from complete strangers who’d loved it,” she said. “So I felt confident that it was worthwhile getting the book into print, which I did via the online publisher and writing community lulu.com.”
Kate is now planning a sequel and is appealing to the public to submit conversations they’ve overheard.
“Readers of my first book have already started to email me snippets of conversation they’ve come across. In return I plan to credit every conversation I use to the person who submitted it, so their name will be in print. Obviously I need to exercise some editorial control! But everyone whose submissions I use will also get their own free printed copy of the book as a thank you.”
You can contact Kate with your overheard snippets of conversation by email: kate@decor-works.co.uk.
Kate’s book ‘You CANNOT buy my forgiveness with cheesecake’ is available in print at www.lulu.com, reference number 1045720. Or you can download a free .pdf copy at www.decor-works.co.uk and www.helpinthecity.com
