Absolutely appalling! The worst restaurant I have ever been to! I urge you not to go unless you want food poisoning (which one of my party had from eating dried up kept warm for hours rice) or a serious injury (the staff were carrying glasses and plates in dishwasher trays through the restaurant and the floor was so wet that I saw a member of staff or customer slip every 30 seconds!!!). This was in the early evening too, when the £12.99 menu had just commenced!!! Gekko prides itself on supplying all types of food so each member of a large party can enjoy what they like rather than everyone having the same cuisine. Err, but the tandoori was closed, the creperie was closed, the sushi had nearly run out, the dried up chilli slick in the bottom of the tray was a disgrace and an embarrassing excuse for mexican food, the chinese buffet was lukewarm, dried up and a haven for germs (the staff were not replacing trays of food but adding water to it, topping up with fresh food and mixing it all togeter!), the desserts were like Mr Kipling slices cut into teeny tiny pieces and left out to curl up at the corners for several hours. Oh, and my freshly cooked pizza took 40 mins to arrive (by which time the rest of my party had finished their main courses!) as the ordering system was so haphazard (one member of staff writing orders in a notebook, then preparing the orders and not having a clue what he was doing!). I will not be going to Gekko again, but instead next time will choose somewhere that does one cuisine well not umpteen terribly!

Gekko looks good from the outside but not on the inside. I agree with all the negative comments.
I should have known better than to eat in a place that offered sausage & chips alongside sushi !!

Too much variety & all very bland.

Dirty plates & cutlery, the floor is sticky & to see staff hosing down the serving trays was pretty disgsting.

Either do Chinese or Indian or Mexican but don't do everything.

The drinks are a rip off - can't see how you can say they are good value.

At least the kids enjoyed the pizza & the crepes.

I would have liked some Indian food to comment on but there was only side dishes.

This was an experience I will not be repeating.

I think all these negative people should chill out. The Gekko restaurant was amazing value for money, very clean including the toilets. Very friendly staff and unbelievable value for money! The drinks are cheap, the place has a good atmosphere with a spacious feel & good decor.

Whoever slagged this place off in the reviews below should get a life and stop criticising a company who is offering tremendous value and very good food. No I don't know the owners nor do I work for them. Please support these guys with fair reviews. It's not silver service but good value food and a great stop off before a night out.

Leave your tragic reviews for the people who deserve it! :Z

However much you are tempted to go here by the cheap prices and variety of good, please resist! This is probably one of the worst places i have ever eaten. Everything feels incredibly cheap, the majority of the food is pretty much tasteless or is congealing into a half jellied mess as it has been left out for so long ( i dread to think what is in it). The pizza and the pasta dishes are also abysmal, nothing is seasoned properly. To some up the pizza and pasta dishes, it is basically very tasteless economy range pasta and pizza bases with bland plastic tasting toppings with half a jar of tasteless dried mix herbs on top. Everyone took a bit and then did not touch their dishes...... Wait there is more!!! Drinks wise AVOID THE BOTTOMLESS SOFT DRINKS AT ALL COST!! The machines lack any type of gas to make them fizzy so what you are essentially getting is water with syrup added that is overly sweet because they are too cheap to use officially branded Coca Cola. Furthermore the deserts are straight out of a Mr Kipling esque packet.

In a nutshell avoid at all costs, the place is a disgrace.

(The service on the other hand was fine and friendly)

this place rocks !!

we went on sunday lunch and it was packed full of people with a sign on the door saying 20 minute wait, we were slighly disappointed but the man who spoke to us at the door said we could wait or if we gave him our number he would call us when a table was ready. there were 8 of us so we went for a few drinks and in about 10mins had a call to say a table was ready.

after sitting down we were told what was on the menu, and then told about more and more and more and more, good job we were all hungry, so much to choose from we didnt know where to start!!
the starters were good but the sushi was in the window and the sun was shining on it, tasted ok though, then there was the main courses.

The pizza, absolutely fabulous!! as good as any, dominos and pizza hut watch out!!, chicken korma tasted like it was delivered from the local Indian, dont know if it was, maybe the local Indian restaurants get theirs from Gekko!! the chilli was great too, not too spicy but loads of flavour. generally we all had a bit of everything and it was all good. we did nearly miss out on the char grill though as its at the back of the restaurant so if you go make sure you go there, the kebabs should not be missed and they are mainly meat so even better value for your money

the drinks took a bit long to arrive and at one point we had a few plates left on the table but with the amount of people in the place this was kind of expected. the staff seemed to be coping though and still smiling!! they seemed friendly enough to us.

then there was desserts, OMG, how much choice!! they did seem a bit like Tesco's own but then you cant complain as believe me you will be far to full from the rest to eat too much cake.
anyway enough of me blabbing on just go and try it and make your own mind up, but be careful not to leave feeling too full!!

Recently had lunch at Gekko and I really enjoyed it!
Food was delicious, and so much choice!
I loved the atmosphere at Gekko -I felt very comfortable and didn't want to leave!
Staff were professional, helpful and very friendly. Amazing value too.
I have recommended Gekko to friends and family, and would recommend this place to anyone who's looking for great food at a very reasonable price.

The concept looked appealing: a buffet encompassing a number of cuisines to satisfy a range of tastes including Tex Mex, Chinese and Indian.

Buffets only work when there is a large turnover of customers so that there is a large turnover of dishes. Dishes which are refilled regularly are more likely to be fresh and taste better. Although Gekko was full of customers, the restaurant just refused to replace trays until they were completely empty. The result was dried out rice, meat dishes without any meat left, and overcooked vegetables.

Even if everything had been cooked freshly, everything was of the very cheapest quality and had an odd taste to it. The crepes tasted like off eggs, the pizzas were pasty and unflavoured, the sweet and sour chicken and pork were indistinguishable from each other and felt like lumps of batter.

Buffets can often bring out the worst in restaurants and customers but there was something especially off about this experience. Someone who looked like he may be a manager was wheeling a luggage trolley full of supermarket-bought ingredients past the customers. As you walked in, there was a sign listing the dos and don'ts for customers. I know this is to try to stop people exploiting their establishment but it felt patronising and could have as easily been written in a less prominent position.

What should I expect for a lunch which costs seven pounds? I suppose I shouldn't expect a lot however what I object to is that Gekko gives the impression that it can genuinely deliver four or five different cuisines at that price. It can't because this model doesn't work.

Here I sit in Gekko, feeling like I have miserably wasted 7 quid and my lunch hour. The Asian section was awful, all limp and tasteless. The pizza was dull and lacking in any seasoning. Also, nearly everything is vegetarian. I hate to think what horrors dessert will bring.

By the end of the meal I felt furious that I had to pay! It was the worst food I have ever eaten in my entire life.

When my friend and I arrived we were greeted by a long list of rules that are kept at Gekko, including 'maximum stay of 2 hours', which, from arrival, made the place seem unfriendly.

As we waited to be seated, one of the employees kept walking past us, smiling, yet not seating us...

However, the girl who eventually served us was very friendly and helpful.

The restaurant serves a mixture of food, from Indian, Malaysian to Chinese in its buffet. There was not one single dish that I found enjoyable. They were either completely tasteless and dry like the egg fried rice, or were bearable for a few seconds before the foul aftertaste kicked in.

Moving onto the pudding for salvation, we were equally, if not more, disappointed than before. At least the main courses resembled food. The same cannot be said for the puddings.

The pudding selection included prodded-looking jelly, cheap ice cream or a number of unidentifiable things in glasses...

Even a simple cupcake proved too difficult. The cases were half full and topped with caramel that I suspect was watered down. The cupcake tasted like nothing I have ever had before, and was rounded off with a hard black bottom that neither me or my friend could explain.

The amount of sugar and fat present in the food must have unbelievable as my friend and I spent the rest of the day feeling almost drunk off the food, and not in a good way.

I would not wish this place on my worst enemy.
