Friend Of A FriendDon't blame Ramsay for this - he went back and tried to set things straight. With the economy the way it is you can't charge premium prices for sub-standard food. |

Lost SoulToday on TV: Momma Cherri blaming Gordon for her restaurant going down. The nerve! We've been regular visitors for several years, and nobody else is to blame but the owner herself. Gordon Ramsey pointed out repeatedly that fresh ingredients prepared well and served by professional staf are essential. But they messed-up again and again. The first time we visted to food was fresh and good, but every other time it was luke-warm, stale and certainly not fresh. And now she is complaining about lack of after-service by Ramsey. After-service? That was free advice and free promotion! How could you mess-up such a freeride? What Momma Cherri obviously lacked were management skills. |

| I was really happy that the booking process went so smoothly, it was great that I could requestHalal meat and it was provided. I live in London so for my birthday my partner and I thought that it would be nice to visit, following a 2hr drive we finally arrived at our destination. We were both looking forward to some good cooking and we were both starving. As we requested halal meat the food was served as soul in the bowl. The starters: the chicken was bone dry absolutely awful it actually was difficult to swallow, and it had no flavour apart from the tabsco sauce poured over it. The cat fish was bland and there was no sauce provided. The main courses: the jambalya was watery not dry and fluffy and the chicken in it was once again dry and bland. The broccoli in cream sauce was very poor it was something out of a coleman cheese sauce packet, the pumpkin and buttersquash was ok but lacked flavour and the mayonnaise type peas/ sweetcorn was something you would get at pizza hut ..... not good. The desserts were ok, but the waiteress got us the wrong one. She rectified it once we told her. The drinks are an outrageous price £2.50 for a can ginger beer thats is ridiculous. The waiteress was nice but awfully clumsly she broke two dishes and splattered bbq sauce over one of the diners cardigans ...poor diner was covered in bbq sauce. Overall teh experience wasnt good the food was of sub stabndard and the decor was much to be desired. Its actually quite expensive considering teh standard of the food I dont mind paying for good food but not £50.00 for food that I could of got better from in tesco's for a £10.00. | |

| We came down to Momma Cherries on Saturday 13th June to celebrate my husbands birthday with our children. Having seen Gordon Ramsey go into the restuarant and turn it around we were very excited about the prospect of eating there. To say it was awful would be an under statement - our waiter was very apologetic but still did not compensate for the auful meal we were presented with which was served on cold plates and took over 2 1/2 hours to arrive. In fact the food was so slow in arriving the next sitting should have been sitting down to eat and we hadn't even received our main meal. The draught beer was not available although this was 6.30 pm in the evening on a Saturday night! The food did not have much taste or flavour and what was presented to us was burnt, greasey and badly cooked. Our potatoe wedges were burnt black and we would have preferred a portion of chips on the beach to this experience. All in all a complete disaster - I can only think that the restaurant is full because of the TV programme but no-one is likely to ever want to go back for more. The resturants decor inside and out was very poor and not particularly inviting or clean. All in all one not to be repeated!! A sorry tale from a disappointed customer who will not return again !! At the end of the evening we were presented with an expensive bill with ?12 added for a tip - a great shame and disappointment on every level. | |

We have been wanting to come here for some time and booked a table. We came down from Surrey specially. We had booked an early table for 5. When we arrived at 5 we were turned away as the waiter was on the phone and 'not quite ready'. We returned 20 minutes later but should have taken that as an omen and not bothered! The waiter was friendly but started by telling us about all of the beer that they didn't have (they were out of everything). We ordered the tapas and didn't have to wait too long. The onion rings were soggy and the chicken wings were dry. The ribs were cremated and definately were glues to the bone. I think that they must have been re heated. The Gumbo was like a tin of Ratatouille with a few Okra thrown in, the chicken wings were lovely and crispy but lacked any flavour at all and the Jambaleya was also reheated. We were dying for anohter drink but the waiter was no where to be seen and was outside on his mobile. Would not recommend this place to anybody and will never go back! Wish we got chips on the beach, would have been much more satisfactory and much cheaper! |

After seeing Momma Cherries on Tv, I had wanted to visit the restaurant for quite some time. I and my partner decided to eat at the restaurant, After doing abit of shopping in Brighton. We where surprised to find the restaurant completely empty. We took a seat in the dark restaurant. The waiter began telling us about all the food, drink we couldnt have. Which seemed to be the cheaper options on the menu, including the draught beer. After waiting a long time for our starters, nachos. A quite simple dish to put together, and not as good as the nachos in los Iguanas(an Excellent Restaurant in Brighton). The meat in our mains where burnt. Maybe this is the style, but it was horrid. The service was poor, slow and miserable. For the ?8 service charge they added to our bill! Momma cherries is the worst restaurant we have ever been to. So unbelievable dissapointing, we are still fuming two days later. With a big hole in our pockets. |

Sat 11 April 2009 - After waiting a couple of years,we eventually visited this restaurant, and then wished that we hadn't. We hadn't booked so had to wait about 15 mins for a table (no problem there) We were seated upstairs in what appears more as a workmans cafe than a restaurant. We ordered soul in a bowl(4 portions) and from the start were disappointed.Service was very slow,( not the fault of the waiters ) and we were in the restaurant for nearly 2 hours The chicken wings starters were so hot( not heatwise ) that the waiter suggested eating them with the coleslaw also on the table. The fish portions were unappetising with no taste to them whatsoever. The corn bread tasted like a dried out madiera cake. The four main course dishes consisted of a bland tasting jambalaya,a huge piece of rib which was impossible to cut into, two chicken drumsticks, also bland and a dish of sweetcorn and broad beans, tasteless and cold. The dessert,a hazelnut tart with icecream, was obviously from the freezer, and still frozen We decided not to pay the optional 12.5% service charge, and I was amazed to find that the first item on the bill was for ?1 for charity. I saw nothing advertised to say that this was added, and when I questioned it,was told that it was optional. Why was it there in the first place ? I have read no mention of this charge in other reviews. There also appears to be no mention of it on the website.Do people just not scrutinise their bills thoroughly ? We will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone, nor will we be going there again. A complete disaster after looking forward to going there for a long time |

| Sunday 5th April - Having wanted to go to this restaurant for ages I was extremely let down by the reality. For starters the service was slow beyond belief and when the food arrived it was lukewarm served on cold plates. Any complaint is met with disdain and meals are overpriced beyond the menu prices. We found that prices are altered according to how the waitress feels on the night, despite checking the meal deal they offer was applicable, twice. In fact, we were dismayed to be charged the full menu price even though we had ordered the house specials. And, even then you can't argue with your bill because despite presenting the facts I was actually kicked out for querying the bill - thank goodness I hadn't added the complaint about the food! All in all, a totally disappointing experience - one I'n sure Mr Ramsey would be appalled at! No desire to repeat the experience let alone recommend the restaurant. Avoid at all costs unless you are looking for an overpriced, cold and unfriendly dining experience! | |

Mamaa Cherris Take TwoLike almost everyone else whos ever eaten at Mama Cherris, I arrived there on the back of Kitchen Nightmares. The first time, about 18 months ago, was fair enough - nothing special, but then I think thats the point of Soutehrn American food. Pricey (?140 for 3 people) but we had several cocktails and the atmosphere and food were acceptable. Second time around was, honestly, absolutely awful. I actually feel upset that I'd recommended the place for dinner! After squeezing through the door and finally being seated...next to a stag party (really romantic for 2 people eh), we got our starter quickly, but as they say, speed isn't everything. My catfish goujons didn't come with hush puppies as advertised, and the pineapple salsa tasted rotten. The goujons themselves were fine, but tasteless, and my partners ribs were ok, but probably microwaved. We asked to be moved, and our waiter was happy to oblige - actually the waiter was very courteous, even amidst our complaints - and our mains arrived at good speed also. First time around I had the meatloaf, which was fresh and tasty - my partner had that this time and didn't even eat half of it! I had the southern fried chicken which tasted less southern fried, more crucified. The candied sweet potato was soggy sweet potato in syrup and the 'gumbo' that was served with the mains was nothing less than tinned tomato and a few veg thrown in for good measure. We didn't have dessert but paid a hefty ?46 for a thoroughly disappointing, unenjoyable dinner. A very sad end to a nice day - the McDonalds breakfast we had in the morning had much more taste, and thats saying something! Not suprised Mama is downsizing - she'll be closing if she doesn't re-add that soul. |

JaneI came from Wiltshire to visit a friend in Brighton and was excited at the prospect of finally getting to eat here. If only I'd read this review page first - or at the very least turned tail and left once our bored, miserable waiter had showed us to our dirty table in this cold and dispiriting restaurant. I've seldom felt so ripped off, and can only echo virtually all the same complaints already raised. We chose the tasting menu and everything was cold, soggy, greasy, tasteless, bland and most certainly not freshly cooked. The chicken wings had what tasted like neat 'Encona' hot sauce splashed on them, and the corn bread was completely stale. I'm shuddering as I'm remembering it all as I write.I was quite unwell afterwards, and 24 hours later, my normally cast-iron stomach's still sore from the experience. I'm very angry that this restaurant feels it's acceptable to turn out food of this disgracefully poor quality. Eating out is a rare treat for me these days and the ?63.00 bill for what I can only describe at best as 'slop', will give me heartburn for a very long time! Having been given such a leg-up by being featured on TV, how unbelievable that they could allow themselves to go back to being the 'before' again. Didn't they learn anything? It's food under false pretences and I'd be ashamed to take peoples' hard-earned money off them in these credit-crunch times. |
