If you go on the right day, the staff are wonderful, the food is great, and you can get the best / second best coffee in the whole city.

Go the next day, and you will be treated with disdain, the staff couldn't care less, the food is mediocre, and the coffee tastes indescribably bad (hint: you can get better-tasting instant coffee for 70p on the main road from the station).

I have no idea what is wrong with this place. They obviously have SOME staff who really care and do a great job, but IMHO they should close the place on days when the idiot staff are the only ones they have on-hand.

Nia: why do you think you are empty so much of the week? Maybe because the locals have worked out you often have some of the crappiest service + dining in the whole city?

Such a pity, given it is so good on the days where you get lucky. If you don't know which is a "lucky" day, avoid this place like the plague!

My family and i enjoyed a lovely evening meal at Nia. The atmosphere was brilliant, friendly attentive staff even though it was very busy. The food was excellent, I especially enjoyed the ceviche as a starter and the chocolate mousse was fabulous. I often come to Nia for lunch and would recommend at any time of the day.

So bad! Went in for lunch yesterday with three friends. Ordered our lunch, enquired where it was twice in the space of 40 minutes only to be told after 45 minutes the order hadn't gone through and they didn't have what we ordered! Appalling service - won't be going back and would advise others to give it a very wide berth.

Looking around the lanes for a place to eat found Nia Brighton. Really nice food and a relaxed cafe type atmosphere. Service very good but not cheap. Set meal option Mon-Thursday looks good value. Enjoyed the expierence.

I only go in here if I'm about to faint from hunger, and then I have toast. The off-hand attitude of the staff is almost breathtaking and whoever the chef was just before Christmas should really learn how to season food, like er soup. Before I knew better I went in with my family. There were six of us and we were given four pieces of bread. I hope it is under new ownership because in theory this place could work quite well.

Having read the review of nia's new management in January’s edition of Insight magazine, I decided to pop in for a spot of lunch with a few friends. We walked into a fairly busy restaurant to be greeted and seated by a nice young man who was very friendly. The cafe has kept its rustic look from the last time I was in, which unfortunately includes a few uncomfortable chairs. Having looked at the menu I decided to go for the lamb, while my friends opted for the soup of the day and the wild mushroom risotto. We had sat at the window with a good view of Trafalgar Street for a spot of people watching, and enjoyed a very good cup of coffee while we waited for our food. When the meals arrived we all tucked in to what I can only describe as homely good food. My lamb was cooked perfectly and the rosti was brilliant, I was informed that the soup was "just the ticket" and the risotto was "warming". The entire meal left us feeling satisfied. The experience was definitely a good one and we shall be returning. Thank you to insight magazine for the recommendation as well as most of you on here. All I can say is go and have a look for yourself.

Saturday Afternoon

What a delight!!! I stumbled into Nia Shoreham on a Saturday afternoon with my boyfriend and we sat on the stunning terrace with beautiful views across the river. We were greeted by friendly waiters, and were bought a cosy blanket each to keep us warm, what attention to detail and service. I ordered a bowl of winter soup that was hearty and full of flavour and my boyfriend had goats cheese crostini. I then had a lamb shank on a a parsnip mash. The lamb was succulent and tender....pure heaven for a foodie like me while my boyfriend had the gratinated aubergine that was delecious. We rounded of our meal with home made scones with cream, jam and tea.

Throughout our meal, the service was excellent and we made to feel really special. We will definately make this our local restuarnat of choice in Shoreham as they are open from 10am to 10pm which is great news for us! Keep up the good work Nia from very happy and satisfied customers.

Popped in for a break from Christmas shopping. Fabulous - Nia has put style back on the menu, classy food on the plate and all in a friendly and intimate atomsphere. It was a very good find and such a nice change from the usual bland offerings to be found else where in Brighton. Well done!!
