Om Bar

We totally stumbled upon this fab bar by accident last Saturday night... WOW! I love it...so nice to go somewhere with a bit of class/style with a really cool ambience. Loved the decor and had a real feel of being in a bar/club in Ibiza...i felt like being on holiday in there! In fact, I love it so much I am going back tonight with some other friends! Bring it on!

Great bar. It has none of the seaside trashiness associated with so many of Brighton's bars and manages to get the feel of a trendy London bar without the being pretentious.

My only worry is it's back street location will mean it gets overlooked. If you live in Brighton or Hove make a point to visit this little gem. Whether it's quiet midweek drink or a pre-club bar on the weekend you'll want to return.

I was eager to try this bar out when I heard about it. The Asian theme looked great and I had high hopes for the bar. On our first visit the place was dead and theres was no one upstairs but the staff were friendly enough. The girl behind the bar was making my cocktail whilst reading receipe from a pad, not the best of starts in my experience and I was proved right, it was very poor. Against my partners wishes we did go back a few weeks later as I was keen to support an independent bar in Brighton. This time it was dead, two other people in the bar at 10.45 pm. I went to order a drink at the bar to be told we would be served at our table which was nice. 8 minutes later we were still waiting to be served I went to the tolet and came back and the barman had just made it over to us. Nice enough but failed to retun with my £3.20 change We finished our drinks and on the way out I asked for my chgange, he gave me a look as if he expected to keep it for serving us at the table. Dam right rude if you ask me. A real shame as the owners have spent a hell of a lot of money on this place. I wont be going back for a 3rd time.

Apologies for not responding sooner, its a shame that you have labeled our Bar in this way after just a few weeks of opening, it has been quiet the first weeks as have many bars that have been established for many years in Brighton the past 2 months due to UK money crisis..

the past weeks have shown that the word is starting to spread as when the bar is busy as it is most weekends late night, it has an amazing buzz about it, the cocktails that have been uniquely designed for the bar with, Indian flavors and colors in mind, have had amazing feed back, we have had to find the right staff, and we believe in the past couple of weeks we have secured confident new staff...

the drinks being of fresh fruit ingredients are taking longer than expected to perfect, but we have had such good feed back that we know this is coming together...

The change scenario i am a little upset with, i am sure this was not intentional, as the table service is not something for our staff to make money this is purely for your comfort and i am mythed as to who out of the guys we have had work there would even think of this as they have been such gents?

we have lots of returning clients and even such have lots of great feed back, i am sorry you have had a bad experience at Om, but we do also value your feed back so as to create the perfect bar for everyone to enjoy

thank you for taking the time to write your review and maybe if in the near future you do return when Om is buzzing and you get to have a great night you may write another review based on any improvements we have made

All the best

Dear Shane,

I really do appreciate your comments and actions regarding the doorman, who I felt was completely out of place at the Om Bar.

Prior to his appalling behaviour we had spent a very nice evening relaxing in the Om Bar, I now feel able to recommend it again, not just because of its ambience and atmosphere, but because you acted so promptly after reading my message.
You could've just ignored me, but you havent, so thank you very much.

I will, of course, pass on your excellent response to all my friends who were with me that night.

Regards and all the best

Ben Martin,
Brighton.

This place would be excellent if it wasnt for the thuggish doorman.
Inside its a relaxing themed bar, with a good atmosphere and expensive drinks yes, but you can sit there all night with just the one if you want. The manager and bar staff are great.

Thats why its all the more perplexing that they should employ a cretinous doorman who thinks its OK to shove pregnant women (a third his size) out of the door and to follow her friends up the road as they leave, calling the pregnant woman a 'bitch'.

Sort it out Om Bar.

Ben

I am shocked to hear of your experience the night you visited Om bar!

we are very grateful that you have taken the time out to express your concerns and we really value your feed back (Many thanks)

I have acted on your review and you will find that when you come again and we are hoping that you will, we have changed the door staff, i am truly upset that the door man had taken this action and he has been removed "permanently" from our venue and in turn has caused the company that he works for a black mark against their reputation and we will be very vigilant as to whom they employ to look after our door.

As you said this bar is a lovely place where we want all of our clients to spend the evening enjoying the ambiance, drinks, music and service

we are currently looking at the price balance, as our former Manager had taken the stance that large drinks be served as standard, we have since parted company and in turn have looked at the price comparison with other venues carefully and changed the pours to single as standard

you will note when you return that the prices have varied from the first couple of weeks trading as we have had some amazing feed back, as per yours, that we value highly and thus the prices are an area we have looked at improving.

again i apologies for the way you were treated by this member of the door team, and assure you and every one visiting Om that this kind of behavior by any member of staff, will not be tolerated by myself or the other director and or the management within our organization.

i would be grateful if you could please email myself directly (shane@ombrighton.co.uk), firstly so that i could make a personal apology to you and send you an invitation to a special night we have coming up, and just as importantly so that i can make a formal complaint to the company that we use for supplying our door staff

Kind Regards

I accidently found OM bar when I was on my way to another club. Tucked away opposite the pier it was a pleasant suprise. Its small, but looks and feels expensive and you can actually relax and chat with friends. I found myself feeling like I was abroad. There is a waterfall wall, candles and budda bar style music. I had one too many chilli cocktails, but its always a good sign when your crawl home. The staff were friendly and just as I was leaving I noticed a DJ in the loo..strange concept, but makes for a fun toilet experience.

My only complaint was the over powering incense, but after speaking with one of the waitresses they stopped burning them. I love it here and am glad someone of my age 30 can finally enjoy a good quality drink..the following night I took my girlfriend and she was pleased I had thought of a romantic venue.....
Check it out.
