Scratch Perverts @ SuperchargedIf you've seen the Scratch Perverts play a club set before, then you'll know that they switch up styles through the set, but bring it all together with their ridiculous turntable dexterity and plenty of bass. This show was no exception. Having been to a few of the Wednesday night SuperCharged sessions this year, I was expecting the phattest beats in town and that's what was delivered - and then some! It started with a local crew, Riskotheque, who played a good selection of tunes and got the dancefloor bobbing up and down, before the first big draw of the night - a back to back set from Caspa & Rusko. The dynamic duo certainly lived up to the hype surrounding them right now. Their style reminded me of the reggae soundsystem sets, with the big tunes getting a rewind and, although some people seemed a little confused by the stop start nature of it, the bass would kick right back in and they'd settle down to enjoy the music. The main room was rammed all night long and it wasn't long before the SP's rocked the spot. Joining proceedings seamlessly with some killer dubstep, the boys soon started moving between the genres, from new bomb to old classic and the crowd loved it. As if this wasn't enough, we were given a consumate display of how to MC a night by the one and only Dynamite MC. The party was rocking til 4am and only some over zealous security staff meant that the cries for 'one more tune' fell on deaf ears. Bring on the Stanton Warriors on 12th December. Christmas comes early to Brighton. |

Silent Disco Live Feat Supergrass @ Concorde 2Last night, Brighton’s Concorde 2 played host to the surreal musical happening known as Silent Disco Live, in which a band and their audience trade large music volumes for wireless headphones. Last night was the turn of Supergrass. Moustachioed and looking eerily like Che Guevara, frontman Gaz Coombes gazed out across a crowd resplendent in headphones, white feather boas and stick on moustaches and laughed ‘ I had a dream like this.’ Things became really strange when you took off the headphones as the band were playing: You could faintly hear Coombes’ voice and the rat-a-tat of the drummer’s electronic kit, over people singing along tone-deaf. At this point I experienced the irrational urge to shout 'all of you outside now.' secure in the knowledge that they couldnt hear me.As expected, the sound quality through the headphones wasn’t marvellous and vaguely reminded me of hospital radio The absence of the usual wall of amplified sound made for a strangely intimate event however, causing the drummer to joke that ‘its about this time I usually like to have a little talk about putting baked beans on my cock, but that’s private.’ Despite the poor sound quality, Coombes’ voice soared on the groups hit ‘Moving’ before the singer soloed emotively on guitar. Even so, I found myself wishing that the band would dispense with the novelty of the headphones for the encore and put the amps behind them to better use. Not a gig as I usually understand it, but an amusing night out and obviously enjoyed equally by the singer who told the audience: ‘ Ive had a laugh I tell you. Its been beautiful. |

SoulflyThis was a truly amazing experience, the legendary Max Cavalera led Soulfly through a thundering set. The crowd response was huge and everybody moshed themselves into oblivion. |

SoulflyThis is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best metal gigs I have witnessed and certainly the best in Brighton. Even the support act, Malefice seemed determined to get in on the action with frontman, Dale Butler, warming up the mosh pit for the main event with a confident and interactive performance. And by the time Soulfly hit the stage, Max Cavalero emerging with his charasmatic smile, the Concorde really exploded. Highlight of the night was the rendition of "Refuse/Resist", the chorus belted out by the crowd. The one lowlight, was the bizarre appearance of an additional singer for "Unleash" who strutted about with a faintly ridiculous snarl on his face, which may work if you are a member of Slayer, but was completely out of place on stage with the smiley feel good atmosphere created by Soulfly. Thankfully, it was a brief interuption and did not detract from what was otherwise a breathtaking performance from this exceptional band. |

AidenAMAZING GIG! Best one I've ever been to. Serpico and Brigade were okay. Not my favourite, but the sound was good, the music was pretty good and I had a brilliant view from the ledge along the right side [got there early and got a seat XD]. Kill Hannah, absolutely fantastic. I liked them before I went, but I came away obsessed. The whole place really got into their music and I don't think anyone didn't enjoy that particular set (even my dad, who took me cause under 16s needed to beaccompanied by an adult and I'm only 14, liked them and now has them on his iPod). A couple of people I met there and I used the bounciness of their set to work my way up to the barrier as well, so by the time Aiden came on, I was right at the front (:Aiden were incredible. When wiL came on, the place went mental. The only small flaw was that during She Will Love You, the bass was all you could hear for about half of the song, but it didn't really matter. Angel, Nick and wiL were all really into it, coming up to the crowd and they all grabbed my hand at least twice each (: (: (: The Smiths cover was fantastic and when they played World By Storm at the end, wiL's speech about following your dreams nearly made me cry, he was so sincere. Afterwards, Jake D signed my ticket and so did one of the guys from Brigade. Amazing night ! Come back soon, Aiden! [actually they said they're coming back in October but we didn't know if they meant England or Concord - please be Concord, it's such an amazing venue!] |

Mindless Self IndulgenceOMG you cannot possibly have a better live band than MSI. Thay were indeed on top form on Wednesday night at Concorde 2 in Brighton. When Jimmy walked into the stage the screams were so damm loud someone deaf in Burma told us to keep it down, and the perfomance was deservidly so. Favourites were played such as Faggot, Shut me up and Straight to video, as well as a rendition of 'God save the queen' as he walked on and Theres no 'busnies like show busnies' when they finished. Johnny Urine also gave us a hit with no accomplement, and the performance was dead on. They are well worth a look see. |

The UndertonesThe Undertones were superb, despite Paul McLoone's bizarre antics and easily justify 5 stars. However, the prats at the front ruined a lot of people's night. Pogoing is great but the minority of pond-life students who thought it was necessary to go into their "wrecking" routines should have been hosed down with pig-slurry and thrown into the path of oncoming traffic. These brain-dead bottom feeders knew nothing about The Undertones or their music and just wanted to impress their own inbred mates-they think they're being outrageous but this behaviour is old-hat and really banal. I've seen it done first time around 30years ago at Clash, Jam, Specials and original Undertones gigs and if these turds had tried it then they really would have got their (pin)heads kicked in. Anyway, what would have been an easy five star gig is cut down to three. I've seen the 'tones here twice before and they were great nights, all the old classics still sound fresh and the boys go for it big-style. Surprisingly, the new album cuts also seemed to have legs and met more than just polite approval. Well done Concorde2 for bringing the Undertones back again, please do it again soon but pull the chain on the morons and flush 'em away! |

Andy C & MoreNightbreed were the better set of the night, they really got the crowd bouncing. Then Andy C came on and clanged for Enland but whats all the hype about? I have seen lesser DJ's get a rave going easier than he did. Very disappointing indeed. Nightbreed should have headlined. |
