| Set in Kemptown, Brighton’s answer to Soho, The Tea Cosy is the campest and most surreal Tea room I have ever seen. Hearing the fabulous reviews and seeing the pictures I booked a table for this Bank Holiday (25th May 2009) for myself, my brother and his husband. I wanted to take them somewhere unique whilst on their visit. Small, cosy, and you are made to feel comically awkward with the decor, china and with the rules of etiquette, as if visiting a slightly eccentric, elderly relative. The guy serving (I believe to be the manager) funny, camp, and made jokes with us the entire time which made the whole experience something that is hard to stop talking about. Wonderful!....definitely worth a visit. I know I certainly will be booking again! | |

Mothers Day TeaWhat a fabulous Tea Room. We booked a table for 4 on Mother days for my sisters and i to take our mum. She loved it so much she has not stopped talking about it since. Both service and the enormous portions were spot on, everyone seemed to be having a great time and the atmosphire was excellent which is really hard to create in some places. We all ordered the Lady Diana Afteroon Tea at £10 a head and was worth every penny. We must have left half of it becouse we were so full up. On Leaving they gave my mum a Diana angle cake which i am informed she had with her tea in the evening. Well done on putting so much effort in, its really paid off. Love Katherine & Family xx We will be back next time we come to brighton. |

Marianne BarrettIndividually, the food was great, but why oh why does it ALL have to be placed on ONE plate?!With strict rules of etiquette (which I sincerely hope are tongue-in-cheek or they'd be insulting) then placing a dollop of potato salad, cucumber sandwiches, a few orange slices and solitary scone all together on a tea plate - seems a little contradictory. Whilst on the subject of scones, wouldn't most people prefer to put their own jam and cream on a scone according to individual taste? Why does it have to come prepared? I can't eat all that cream! A little flexibility of choice would have been nice. Why can't I have Welsh rarebit followed by a slice of Victoria sponge - if I'd like to and am prepared to pay for it? Why should that send the kitchen into a tailspin / fit of sulks / spate of tantrum throwing? I realise that the Tea Cozy is playing to a niche market and trying to be endearingly eccentric - but that doesn't have to compromise choice or presentation or treating customers like adults. |

Fantastic Afternoon Tea!I had heard lots about The Tea Cosy what with its "etiquette" rules- heaven forbid if you clink your teaspoon on the cup for example- but despite being a Brighton resident I had never visited before until last week. I only wish I had tried it sooner!Located on George Street, you really cant miss The Tea Cosy. It's over the top decor stands out even in glam Brighton and once you walk through the door you don't know where to look. There was so much royal memorabilia adorning the walls it was difficult to see where the toilet door was! This really is the ultimate English tea house. Where else can you take afternoon tea whilst the Royal Family, the cast of Coronation street, and the Carry on films look down on you whilst an automatic piano belts out the national anthem? Our host made us feel extremely welcome and after perusing the menu my companion and I chose the "Lady Di Afternoon Tea" at £10 each. After bringing us a delicious pot of Yorkshire Tea (complete with tea cosy of course), our luncheon arrived quickly and... WOW!!! I have never seen anything like it! A 3 tier plate packed full with potato salad and fresh salad on the top; ham and mustard, smoked salmon, egg and cress sandwiches with the crusts removed on the middle tier; fruit pastries, chocolate digestives, fruit cake and chocolate cake on the bottom tier; and a separate plate with the most delicious cream scones. Far, far more than the 2 of us could ever have finished even though it was all so delicious- in fact possibly the best cakes I have ever had - and all home made! We enjoyed it so much that we just couldn't face going to Starbucks/Costa Coffee etc and we ended up going back again the following day! Camp, kitsch, and just plain great fun, The Tea Cosy is an absolute must for anybody- not just tourists looking for a slice of England but for anybody looking for great tea and cakes who is tired of humdrum chain coffee shops. Highly recommended. |

Hen PartyThis is a must go place when visiting Brighton. We went while waiting for the rest of our hen party to arrive, there were four of us, and had so much fun. We had the Lady Di tea and it was HUGE!!! We were told by the owner that only one guy has come close to finishing it and didn't so excellent value for money. We loved the etiquette and had great fun trying to keep too it. It was very quiet when we went so cant imagine how amazing it would be on a sat eve. Thank you cosy tea room, we LOVE you xxx |

Chistmas TeaA Big thank you to the Guys at the Tea Cosy for making our christmas bash such a good laugh. Loved every minute, the food was as discussed, hot and tasty. Bring your own drink policy was even better, so much cheaper, entertainment thrown in for free and was not rushed out even though we over stayed our booking time waiting for taxi's. Will be back next year and be in for tea soon xx Lorna (HMP property services) |

Afternoon TeaA true brightonian independent Tea shop! Quirky, inventive, out of the bag and dam right camp and an amazing experience that must not be missed. My friends booked us up to go for afternoon tea for my birthday and it was the best present i got. Staff/owners provide non stop entertainment, food (Lady Diana Afternoon Tea) was presented so well on a nice gold leaf 3 tier cake stand it seemed a shame to ruin it and eat it, Tea constantly replenished without even asking, Amazing Decorations, and a eclectic mix of music ranging from 1940's war time classics to Kyle an Abba! 5 stars ***** Parking a nightmare. Two words that sum up the tea cosy 'weird & wonderful' but what do you expect in kemptown? |

| Important note for PARENTS - don't bother. Intrigued by so many great reviews, a friend and I traipsed quite a way across town (in the cold and pouring rain) to try out this place. Our dreams of warming up over hot tea and scones were shattered as, having my one year-old son with us, we were greeted by "Sorry, no prams allowed." Is this actually legal? | |

Sunday TeaExcellent, fabulous, interesting, tasty, entertaining, un-usual, unique, independent, strange, pricey but worth every penny, comfortable, welcoming. Just some of the many words i could use to describe my afternoon at the Tea Cosy. Not sure its a place you would frequent every week but as a special treat every now and again or somewhere to take your visiting family its great. Highly recommend for a real brighton experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
